The obscene hatred of British journalists

The British public’s perception of journalists has sunk so low that when I am asked in social situations what my job is, I am sometimes tempted to pretend I am part of a more respected profession – like drug trafficking. I exaggerate, of course, but only a little. Most people view journalists as immoral liars who would sell our own grandmothers for a front-page scoop. I am an altogether softer writer, so when members of my profession publish sensationalist or intrusive stories, I don’t sit and flog myself on their behalf.



However, when the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) passed a motion at its annual meeting to boycott Israel, I hung my head in utter shame and despair - despite the fact that I am no longer an NUJ member. Those emotions of shame and despair were not joined by shock, though, because the British media has long been absorbed by a blind hatred of Israel. Newspapers like The Independent and The Guardian print editorials that are so biased and distorted that Osama Bin Laden would probably blush at them. The BBC refuses to describe suicide bombers who blow up buses full of schoolchildren as "terrorists" and one of its correspondents told a Hamas rally that he and his colleagues were “waging the campaign shoulder-to-shoulder with the Palestinian people”.



I visited Israel for the first time last year to research some articles about tourism there. Within hours of my return I received a call from a journalist acquaintance who asked me with genuine shock: “What’s all this about you going to Israel?” He said that a mutual journalist acquaintance of ours was “absolutely disgusted” with me for going there and that he hoped I was “going to put the boot in” when I wrote my articles.

5000 Terrorist Websites

According to a new report, there are officially 5000 websites being used by terrorists and their supporters.

Of course, anyone with access to the most rudimentary computer programs can make a website. Indeed anyone with access to the internet can use the templates available online to make a website.

Design is one thing, "hosting" is another. You can make a website, but unless a company is willing to put it on its web server, nobody will be able to log into it.

Sadly, it seems, too many big hosting companies turn a blind eye to the hate and violence they are effectively helping to disemminate. Even worse, some companies will refuse to touch terrorist sites because they feel it is a free speech issue.

If the owners of these companies were arrested and tried for complicity, the situation would change, but pehaps the intelligence services prefer to have these sites up and running. They are, after all, a good source of information. Also, by monitoring who logs into them, they can trace potential suspects. I just hope the benefits outweigh the obvious threats.

Islam's war with Buddhism

There are those that will tell you that we, the West, are responsible for Islamic terrorism and violence. That if we did not have the temerity to take on the savage maniacal despot threatening us from Iraq, it would all be okay. That we should never have responded to 9/11. That it is our support of Israel that causes this hostility, that Islam is a religion of peace.

Well if there is such thing as a religion of peace in this world, it would definitely not be the one that brought us Hamas, Hezbollah, Fatah, Black September, Amal, the Al Asqa Martyrs Brigade, Saddam, Khomeini, Nasser and.....Mohammed himself.

Reading the bible, you'd probably also have some trouble applying the term "religion of peace" to Judaism. Of course if todays Israelites were "peaceful", they would be toast by now, so perhaps that's a harsh judgment.

And as much as I love and respect Christians, there are the small matters of the crusades and the inquisition blotting their religion's copybook.

Probably the only real candidate for "religion of peace" would be Buddhism.

But hell - that doesn't stop the Islamists trying to wipe them out. It seems that every month there's another gruesome news story about some poor Thai or Indonesian Buddhist that finds himself decapitated by the peaceful followers of Mohammed.
